Buckleys is a brewery based in Healesville. To turn grain (malted barley, hops & wheat) into 1200 litres of beer it needs to heat & boil 1700L of water.
Problem: Up until TODAY Buckleys did this with a giant electric kettle from an ambient temperature of approximately 8 degrees. 1700L of water needs 7 hours at 27kW to boil from 8 degrees…that’s 216 kWh per brew…that’s 216 kg of coal fired carbon emissions just to START the brew! more info here: http://goodbrew.com.au/files/caseStudyBuckleys.pdf

Solution: Now Buckleys are installing vacuum tube based solar panels to preheat the water required. Buckleys will be able to get the 1700L of water to a prebrew temperature of 80°c carbon emission free☺
